Among of the different kinds of composition is the Description composition. Description is a form of composition that attempts to present in words the pictures of some objects, persons, scene and other else. It is writing by describing something that a writer had experienced.

The Description composition serves as an aid to the exposition as it appeals to the understanding of the readers. It also appeals to the senses of man especially to the sense of sight. Further, the description composition also appeals to the feelings and to the emotion of the readers. With this, the feelings as well as the emotions of the readers should be given emphasis.

Sensory experiences are very effective in the description process. These experiences are those we see, what we hear, what we touch, what we taste and what we smell; they call up sensory images. In the process, one can describe something if he or she experienced it through his or her senses. With this, he or she can also transfer his or her experiences to the readers through the description process.

There are two kinds of Description; the Informative description also called as scientific or technical description) and the Artistic description (also called as suggestive, evocative and literary description). These two kinds of description, namely the Informative Description as well as the Artistic Description share some common characteristic but they differ in other way.

The informative description represents with photographic accuracy the very detail of the appearance of the person, the appearance of the place, or the appearance of the object for identification purposes. This kind of description composition tries to show the reality about something. It tries to expose the real thing as what the author or the writer had seen, felt, heard or experienced.

The Artistic description has the aim to give pleasure to the readers. This kind of description appeals to the sense of beauty through the way of stimulating the reader’s imagination and emotion. It is aimed to entertain the readers; it further enhance the reader’s interest and motivation in reading by providing or describing something in artistic way; thus providing the readers with the sense of imagination in their part.

The description type of composition is best done through the use of the writer’s sensory experiences. Using these so called sensory experiences, the writer can be able to describe or informed to the readers what they had thought and what they had felt with regards to something.
